Why don't I get to keep mystery eggs I find in my own chicken coop on FarmVille?

When I feed other peoples chicken coops and find mystery eggs I get to keep them. When my own coop produces mystery eggs I can’t keep them. What’s up with that? Is that the way the game works or am I getting the short end of the stick with a game glitch?
